Make a Change Sunderland

Make a Change launched in Sunderland in September 2022, thanks to funding from the National Community Lottery Fund. It’s delivered locally by Right Turn and the integrated support for partners and ex-partners is delivered by Wearside Women in Need (WWIN).

We offer the full range of Make a Change services in Sunderland, including:

•  Direct work with people who are concerned about their behaviour towards their partner and/or ex-partner, including a structured 10 to 26-week programme.

•  Proactive support to the partners and ex-partners of people referred to the service.

•  Briefings and trainings for professionals who want to strengthen their response to harmful behaviour in current or previous relationships.

•  Community outreach, including to the friends and family around relationships where harmful behaviour is happening.

Training for professionals

We offer a range of different training packages for professionals, completely free of charge, to meet the needs of your role or organisation. Our trainings give you and your team the tools to recognise harmful behaviour in relationships, to respond effectively and safely, and to make referrals.

Recognise, Respond and Refer training

If you have a role that means you’re building relationships with people and/or entering their homes, you might have experienced that ‘gut feeling’ that tells you something isn’t quite right in their relationship, or witnessed something that shouldn’t be happening. Our free Recognise, Respond and Refer training session can support you to recognise the signs of harmful behaviour, respond safely and effectively, and refer on to Make a Change. You can book through Eventbrite.
