Make a Change Merseyside

Make a Change launched in Merseyside in September 2022, thanks to funding from the National Community Lottery Fund. It’s delivered locally by Merseyside Domestic Violence Service (MDVS).

The service sits alongside existing local projects, to provide an earlier response than other programmes are able to. It helps people access support to change their harmful behaviour earlier than is typical, and before they have been involved with multiple agencies.

Make a Change Merseyside provides:

•  Direct work with people who live, work in, or have a close connection to Liverpool and are concerned about their behaviour towards their partner and/or ex-partner, potentially in preparation for a referral to a further MDVS programme.

•  Proactive support to the partners and ex-partners of people referred to the service.

•  Briefings and trainings for professionals who want to strengthen their response to harmful behaviour in intimate or previously intimate relationships.

•  Community outreach, including to the friends and family around relationships where harmful behaviour is happening.

Training for professionals

We offer a range of different training packages for professionals, completely free of charge, to meet the needs of your role or organisation. Our trainings give you and your team the tools to recognise harmful behaviour in relationships, to respond effectively and safely, and to make referrals.

Recognise, Respond and Refer training

If you have a role that means you’re building relationships with people and/or entering their homes, you might have experienced that ‘gut feeling’ that tells you something isn’t quite right in their relationship, or witnessed something that shouldn’t be happening. Our free Recognise, Respond and Refer training session can support you to recognise the signs of harmful behaviour, respond safely and effectively, and refer on to Make a Change. You can book through Eventbrite.
